Paracosm Project is working on a few products at the same time, but they are not separate from each other. The Paracosm platform, Caer Sidi service, and games of Post Scriptum are interconnected, tangled into one impressive ecosystem. The thing that unites them all is our portal to many game paracosms, a digital implementation of the legendary fortress Caer Sidi. This portal has a web version and a VR form. The last one is our upcoming CrossParacosmic VR Hub, which we develop in cooperation with our partners from Iridescent Studio.
We are ready to share with you some interesting news on CrossParacosmic VR Hub. The starting piece of information has been revealed in this article.
First of all, we would like to confirm one more time – Paracosm Project and the development company Iridescent Studio have signed the official document about partnership in creating this VR room.
Another basic aspect of CrossParacosmic VR Hub is choosing tools for its development. After quite a consideration we’ve decided to work in the environment of Unreal Engine.
The stage of pre-production is almost finished, so with the ready technical stack and concept arts we are moving forward in the process of development.
To enter CrossParacosmic VR Hub, users should have a premium class headset: HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. We are going to provide Caer Sidi Denizens with the best experience possible.
The central part of our VR room will be dedicated to communication. Registered users (with Paracosm keys and verified accounts) will be able to use the general voice chat or to organize a private dialog. Also, for the registered user, we will create the possibility to choose one of the basic avatars and change their virtual appearance. Later on, our marketplace will have offers of additional avatars. This will become a creative opportunity for developers – to trade custom avatars.
Unregistered users with anonymous accounts also will be able to enter CrossParacosmic VR Hub. Still, the functionality for them will be rather limited – no voice communications, just listening, and no avatars. Anonymous will be visible as disembodied spirits with no nicknames.
Simultaneously, CrossParacosmic VR Hub will be able to accept up to 50 people. If the gathering is bigger, the system automatically creates additional rooms. Caer Sidi Denizens will usually enter a VR room with people from their friends list.
Quite a lot of efforts were put into checking the VR Hub scaling – how big it should be to convey the right feelings, how many users it should contain for the best user experience. Our team prepared a few builds of CrossParacosmic VR Hub to make proper testing sessions.
Of course, these decisions can be changed in the future (especially with the further development of the VR, AR, and Cross-Reality technologies).
What it feels like – to be inside
We try to make CrossReality VR Hub a pleasant place to be. Our designers work on textures and create various visual effects. Step by step, our VR room takes shapes and colors.
The internal communication is just a part of the experience here. Caer Sidi Denizens will be able to enjoy the adventure of explorations – enter many connected game paracosms through portals around the Hub. They will be a kind of doors to games of Paracosm Project (such as Post Scriptum CTG) or games of our partners (such as Altar: the War of Gods).
Whilst a game is in development, players can see only a part of that virtual world – for example, a piece of the Post Scriptum location from our upcoming MMORPG, which will be available through a special balcony. This feature is meant to convey the internal atmosphere, the very spirit of this game.
These portals will give additional opportunities for game publishers. Our partners will be able to rent a portal in CrossParacosmic VR Hub to invite players to their games.
This VR room will be interesting on its own. We plan to conduct various special events there, make some announcements for the community. Partners of Paracosm Project will have the same opportunity – like giving free assets or game licenses.
CrossParacosmic VR Hub will have a door to the marketplace of virtual assets. Like the whole portal, it will be implemented in both a VR form and a classic web version.
The release of CrossParacosmic VR Hub is planned for summer 2019.
